Michelle Atwell is the US Director of SEND International, a global missions organization based in the Detroit area. She comes to SEND with over 18 years of experience working at ministries and nonprofits, specializing in fundraising and development—and she’s the first female to serve in this role. Michelle has served on SEND’s US Board of Directors for 5 years and chaired the Fund Development Committee. Prior to this role, she held positions at Grace Centers of Hope and the American Red Cross.
Her missions background includes short-term church planting in Chernobyl Ukraine, lifestyle evangelism in Russia as a college student with InterVarsity, and serving as the Missions Chair at her local church. In her role she is able to travel to ministry fields to encourage and support SEND missionaries, but her primary focus is to help serve and equip churches here in the US in pursuing their vision for global missions.
Michelle has a Master’s Degree in Public Affairs and Non-Profit Management from Indiana University and an undergraduate degree in Sociology from Oakland University. She is also an alumni of Leadership Detroit and has been involved in several nonprofit organizations in a volunteer capacity.
She lives in metro Detroit with her husband, Joe, and their two children. In her spare time, Michelle enjoys running, reading and spending time with her family.
